Your child starts school already reading.
TurboPhonics is a live, small-group reading program. Three levels, nine months. At the end, your child can pick up a Grade 1 book and read it.
Why the first year matters more than it looks
On the first day of school, the class quietly splits into three groups. The children already reading. The children just starting. The children still learning their letters.
Which group your child sits in shapes their whole year — and how they feel about themselves in it.
We get children into the first group before school does the sorting.
Three levels, three months each
Level 2
Words to sentences
Blends, magic e, digraphs, vowel teams, spelling rules. By the end, your child reads simple sentences with fluency.
Level 3
Sentences to books
R-controlled sounds, diphthongs, prefixes and suffixes, syllables, paragraph reading. By the end, your child works out unfamiliar words on their own.
What a week looks like
Two live classes. The first teaches something new. The second puts it to work. Worksheets at home in between.
Groups of four or five children. Classes start at 45 minutes and stretch to an hour once your child settles.
In Level 1, stay nearby — four-year-olds still need a hand with the mute button.
On paper, not on a screen
Homework is worksheets. No apps, no logins.
After class there's nothing to open on a screen — just a pencil, a page, and a few minutes of practice.
There's no entrance test
We talk instead. Can your child sit for about half an hour? Do they know some letters? Do they like being read to?
None of it is a requirement. It just tells us when to start.
Almost every child begins at Level 1. The best age to start is around 4 to 4½.
Who runs this
The Learning Habits has been teaching children to read for 25 years. Children go into this program and come out reading.
Every term there's an assessment and a written report, so you can see exactly where your child is.
What we ask of you
Read to your child every day. They don't have to read back. You read, for fun.

Questions parents ask
My child is 3. Can we start?
Sometimes. If they're genuinely interested and will sit and listen, 3½ can work. Most children do best starting at 4 to 4½.
What if we miss a class?
We catch your child up so they rejoin the group without falling behind.
My child already knows their letters — can we skip Level 1?
Possibly. If your child can already blend three-letter words, we'll check that, teach the few things they'd have missed, then place them in Level 2.
How will I know it's working?
By about week 8 your child should be blending sounds into words. If that isn't happening, we tell you and change the support.
Do I need to sit through every class?
In Level 1, stay nearby. By Level 2 most children manage on their own.
